Ginger-lemon tea - gember-citroen thee

The best remedie in winter: ginger-lemon tea!
Ginger is the root of the ginger plant (Zingiber officinale); it can be used fresh or dried or juiced.
In India it is used in many forms in the kitchen and in this very common drink with lemon and honey.

Ginger has many health benefits such as warming the entire system, calming the digestive system, helping ease menstrual cramps, calming the heart, helping your liver stay healthy,  helping relieve constipation, flatulence and belly cramps, it stimulates the appetite and agni (digestive fire), helps with soothing colds and coughing. You can make compresses or take a bath with ginger root to relieve sore and aching joints.

For me, making ginger-lemon tea, is the first thing I do, before my yoga practice, in the morning. It helps me to stay warm in these cold wintery days, it helps my digestive system relax a little bit, it reminds me of India

Ginger-lemon tea

For 1 liter:
Bring 1 liter of water to the boil with slices of ginger root, about 5 cm. There is no need to peel the ginger root. Let it cook softly for 10 – 40 minutes with the lid on. The longer you cook it, the stronger the ginger taste! Take it from the heat, add some lemon juice and honey to your own taste and pour the ginger-lemon tea in a thermos flask and drink it during your day.

Ahhh, it is so good!

Gember-citroen thee
